Hawaiian Spring Vacation

We went with the Fields on their spring break in Hawaii. We left the rainy Pacific Northwest on April 25 and returned May 2. The first four days we stayed in a house about two blocks from the beach in Kailua, on the windward side of Oahu.

We were greeted with leis when we arrived at 11:30 p.m.

Hawaii is three hours earlier than Pacific
time.Linds and Karl looked perky in spite of the late hour!

Same for Spence, Mason and Lauren.

Karl was the trip planner, with Mel overseeing to make sure nothing escaped the (sometimes) absent-minded prof!

This was the living room. Pretty comfy.

This is the back yard with Lindsey enjoying the pool.

Dining area with a sunken lanai on the back..

Inside the lanai..
This little patio was a nice place to relax;
we all had our ways of relaxing!

This beach was two blocks from the house.

"Welcome"

We also had three bedrooms and two baths.

Mason got a coconut.

It was really hard to get open.

But it was worth it!!

Fishing.

We received leis twice; enjoyed their fragrance for a long time!

Karl buying shaved ice at O'bama's favorite shop where he brought his daughters on their visit. He grew up in Kailua.

On the Way

After four days at Kailua on the windward (east) side of Oahu, we went to Honolulu on the south end of the island. On the way we stopped at a lookout with a magnificent view.

Strange little bird was very tame.

Definitely free range!!

Condo on Waikiki

After our beach house in quiet Kailua, we spent three days in a condo, in Honolul near Waikiki..very different.

Paul and I had a one-bedroom and the Fields had a two-bedroom down the hall.
Mason slept on the hide-a-bed in our livingroom (above.)

We were on the twelfth floor; the pool and tennis courts were on the sixth floor; view from our window.

I was sitting on a bench and this flower
drifted down from a tree into my lap!
There is a lot happening on Waikiki near the big hotels!

One of the first hotels on the beach--the Royal Hawaiian, now dwarfed by all the newer ones.

The guy in the red goes around lighting the fire posts.

Tourists waiting for their tour bus to pick them up after a day on the beach.

Birds were in the trunk of the tree where the tourists were sitting.
